It's been a smooth transition back after the Winter Break for us!
The students have been loving the new centres and activities available, specifically playing with the Arctic animals. We heard lots of wonders about these animals, and where they live, that we decided to investigate this topic further!
Here is the beginning of our Arctic Inquiry!
We set up these small plastic animals, along with several books, at our Science and Discovery Centre.
Can you build an ice castle for Elsa and Ana?
Can you solve a pentomino puzzle?
These were a free download from Math Equals Love.
We set out this game - Roll-a-Snowman - on the Light Table.
You can find this game in my Fun with Dice pack in my TpT store.
Our Sensory Bin remains the same, with blue and clear acrylic ice cubes and blue tinted water, but we added tongs and ice cube trays.
Can you build a snowman using loose parts?
Students can retell the story of The Mitten at our Felt Board.
I created these felt board sets years ago!
Can you make a winter book?
The vocabulary chart is from my Writing Center Posters pack in my TpT store.
Here's a look at what we have planned for our small group mini lessons:
Students can practice tracing letters in our Alphabet Printing Book.
For those students who are still reviewing letters/sounds, we will be singing along with my
Alphabet Song Book and matching magnetic letters. Just scan the QR code on the front of the book to hear the song! This book also comes with black and white copies for students to colour and take home, along with posters to use!
Students are learning to draw simple pictures so I created this chart of winter items that are fairly easy to draw. You can download this chart for FREE by clicking below.
I usually set up these Find It! games on the pocket chart but thought we could use them with our sight word/word work group. I scattered some sight word cards on the table and hid the snowman underneath. Students call out a sight word and we reveal if the snowman is hiding!
You can find this in my Find It! Winter game in my TpT store.
We are continuing with graphing in math. Students will be creating their own 2-column (JK) and 3-column (SK) surveys and asking their friends. I told the class that we will have a chance to visit our friends in the grade 1 classrooms this coming week to survey them! Well you can imagine how many students already started preparing their graphs!!! They are very excited!
All of my graphing activities comes from my Graphing in Kindergarten pack in my TpT store.
Students who need more practice with numbers will play this game - Who Has More?
Roll 2 dice and place on top of each 10-frame. Show that many in the 10-frames.
Who has more?
You can play this game individually or with a partner!
This game is from my Number Sense in Kindergarten pack in my TpT store if you'd like to see more.
We will be learning about environmental print this week during our Writing Blocks.
I'm going to be bringing in flyers (grocery, store, toy, etc.) and made this book to help explain this concept to the students.
I just added this to my "I Can Write! #2" pack. If you own this pack (or the bundle) please go back and re-download to get these pages for FREE!
Here are my weekly plans if you'd like to download!
If you would like the editable version to modify this for your own class click HERE.
The original blank PowerPoint file has been uploaded onto Google Slides but the formatting has changed.
Have a great week!
